Fitness! Fun! FUNDRAISING! Melissa's Race to Battle Brain Cancer is SO much more than another 5K. This event is a FUNDRAISER benefiting FLORIDA HOSPITAL CANCER INSTITUTE for brain cancer research. It's also a fun, challenging, and certified chip-timed 5K run and walk, located at Fort Mellon Park on the scenic shore of Lake Monroe in Sanford. This event is in memory of Melissa Vosburg, a resident of Sanford and teacher at Midway Elementary School, who was lost to brain cancer in 2013.

Registration: (all registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable)
5K Run/Walk Adult (Over 16) - $35 through Noon April 26, 2018 - $40 Day of Race
5K Run/Walk Youth (16 & Under) - $25 through Noon April 26, 2018 - $30 Day of Race
Virtual Run (Over 16) - $35 through April 27, 2018
Virtual Run Youth (16 & Under ) - $25 through April 27, 2018

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL RACE? A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself and send in your time. And your medal and t-shirt will be shipped directly to you.

Virtually anyone, of any fitness levels, can comfortably walk a 5k in under an hour!

You may still walk up at pre-event packet pick up to register on Friday April 27, 2018, or day of event starting at 6:30am. We accept Cash, Checks, Credit and Debit cards!

Fundraising:
520 people each day, 21 people each hour are diagnosed with a brain tumor. There is no cure for brain cancer. Only with research will that change. Our fundraising DIRECTLY benefits research, and stays LOCAL benefiting Florida Hospital.

Our goal is to raise $55,000 for brain cancer research! You will automatically be setup as a fundraiser. PLUS as an added incentive, your fundraising will enter you in a drawing for valuable prizes! Visit the Fundraising tab for more details!

Parking:

First St closed, use Third St to park. Parking at Chamber of Commerce lot, First St and Sanford Ave, and Seminole Blvd. Follow signs to starting line!

Volunteers:
Please arrive by 6am. Look for people in Red Shirts for info.

Teams:
To create a team, sign yourself up and choose "Create a Team" when asked. You can also create your team as a fundraising team by choosing "Yes" when asked.

To join a team, sign yourself up and choose "Join a Team" when asked. Choose the team you wish to join from the drop down list.

Your team will automatically be setup as a Fundraising team. As an added incentive, your fundraising will enter you into a drawing for a Team prize. Please see the Fundraising tab for more details.

Awards and Timing:
Among those choosing to be timed in the 5k, the top adult male and female and top age group winners will be presented with awards.

AGE GROUPS:
16 & under, 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+

RUNNERS PLEASE NOTE:
Only the first place winner in each age group (male and female) will receive an award, not top 3. As this event is a fundraising event, we have to keep our costs low and cannot do as many running awards. All 5K participants will have a timing chip on their bib and will be able to view and print your finish time and overall results in the Timing Tent.

Medals:

All participants, live and virtual, will receive a 3 inch finishers medal.

T-Shirts:
All pre-registration participants will receive a shirt if registered by midnight April 18, 2018.

Beneficiary:
The purpose of our charity is to raise awareness of brain cancer, to fund research of brain cancer treatments, as well as to encourage and support innovations in primary education. Melissa Vosburg, Inc is a US 501(c)3 charitable organization, so all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
